The Environmental Challenge Fund is a not-for-profit corporation that provides employees of NiSource and its subsidiary companies the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to their local environment. The Fund provides support for local natural resource and wildlife enhancement projects. Certain educational aspects and recreational features that are essential to the overall success of the project may also be considered for funding.
Each year, we invite not-for-profit environmental and community organizations to submit project funding proposals to the Regional Advisory Committees located in the following areas: Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. The Advisory Committees, composed of employees as well as environmental and community leaders, review the proposals and make recommendations on funding priority to the Fund's Board of Directors. Applications are accepted November 1 through February 28 and final funding decisions are announced in April.
To date, the Fund has awarded approximately $1,200,000 to over 380 projects.
